Generic anchor
A generic anchor uses non-descriptive filler text like click here, read more, this website, or learn more as the link's clickable words.
Generic anchors carry no keyword signal about the destination page, which is precisely their purpose in a backlink profile. Real editors and ordinary web users link with phrases like visit their site or see this all the time, so a steady supply of generic anchors makes a profile read as natural rather than manipulated.
Used as a counterweight to keyword-heavy anchors, generics help keep anchor text ratios safe and lower the chance of tripping over optimization or exact match anchor thresholds. They will not move you for a target keyword on their own, but they build topical and trust signals while keeping the overall mix believable.
The honest caveat: generic anchors are weak for ranking a specific term, so do not rely on them for money pages where you actually want keyword lift. Blend them with partial match anchor and branded anchor text rather than letting any single anchor type dominate.
